  • News About International Baccalaureate  (IB) at North

In addition to our current IB Diploma Programme, North High School is now a candidate school for the Middle Years Programme (MYP). We anticipate this candidacy will last one full school year before the MYP is fully implemented.  The MYP is applicable  to all students at the freshman and sophomore level. It provides a framework for learning which will encourage students to become creative, critical, and reflective thinkers. The MYP is aligned to the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards. As an IB World School, North promotes and embodies the IB commitment to high quality, challenging and international education. We believe that this philosophy is of utmost importance for our students and will prepare them for success in college, career, and life.

  • AzMERIT to Replace AIMS Exams for 2017 Graduates
    Arizona Dept. of Education Logo
The State Board of Education has adopted a new assessment to replace the AIMS Reading, Writing and Mathematics exams. AzMERIT, Arizona’s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching, will be administered statewide in the spring of 2015 for the first time. The tests will measure proficiency of the Arizona College and Career Ready Standards in the areas of Math and English Language Arts in grades 9, 10 and 11.

Currently, students will not be required to pass the end-of-course tests for graduation, but must still earn the minimum number of English and Mathematics credits in order to graduate. The actual test dates have not been determined yet, but will be across multiple days in April.

High school students graduating after December 31, 2016 will no longer be required to pass the AIMS tests to graduate high school. AIMS Science will still be administered, tied to school accountability, but not graduation.
